El Portal, Ca — Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger joined local officials Friday at a ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of temporary bridges on Hwy 140 near Yosemite National Park.
Prior to Friday, vehicles longer than 28 feet, including tour buses, school buses and some emergency vehicles, could not access Hwy 140 into Yosemite due to the 2006 Ferguson Rockslide.
The $8 million project installed two new interim bridges to allow vehicles up to 45 feet long access to the bypass while a permanent restoration project is developed for Hwy 140.
The goal was to have the bridges in place before the 4th of July holiday.
