Governor Schwarzenegger Honors Medal Of Valor Recipients

Governor Schwarzenegger was Wednesday’s KVML "Newsmaker of the Day". Here are his words:

"Hello, this is Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger with another California Report.

This week, we celebrated 50 years of heroism in our great state.

Every year since 1959, the Governor of California has awarded the Medal of Valor to state employees who come to the aid of others in their hour of need.

On Thursday, I awarded the Medal of Valor to 27 men and women who risked their lives to save others.

Their stories were amazing.

These courageous people jumped into action and saved friends and co-workers, even strangers, from burning vehicles, from a capsized boat, from a masked gunman, even from a head-on train collision.

We all share that California spirit. We all have the potential to put service and sacrifice above all else, through everyday acts of kindness.

Heroism isn’t just about bold deeds and rushing into burning buildings.

It is also about taking care of one another in these difficult times.

My wife, Maria, and I launched an effort this week to donate more than 1 million meals to Californians in need.

You can help. Go to weconnect.net for more information.

I urge you to join us and to be an everyday hero too.

Thank you for watching and thank you for listening."

The "Newsmaker of the Day" is heard every weekday morning at 6:46, 7:46 and 8:46am on AM 1450 KVML.
