Sacramento, CA — Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has called for a special session to discuss a package of reforms regarding education.
The first item is that students be able to transfer to any public school they wish. "Parents want choice, and our package will give them exactly that," says Schwarzenegger.
The Governor is also recommending reducing caps on charter schools and making changes aimed at better evaluating teacher performance. It includes merit pay.
The proposed changes would allow the state to become eligible for a percentage of the $4.3 billion in federal stimulus money that will soon become available for education.
