Knight Fire Downsizing Continues

Sonora, CA — Earlier this week there were more than 1,300 firefighters on the lines at the Knight Fire … today there are but 433.

Now in its 13th day, the 6,150 acre fire in the Stanislaus River Canyon is 80 percent contained. Deployment continues as many firefighters have been reassigned to other fires in northern California along with many who have or are headed to their home stations.

Today’s resources include two helicopters, 12 engines, 14 water tenders, three dozers, six Type One hand crews and four Type Two hand crews.

The cost of fighting the Knight Fire to date is $11.1 million. The fire is set for 100 percent containment at 6pm Sunday.
