Fire Danger Remains Extremely High

Sonora, CA — With continuing 100 plus degree temperatures (105 is expected today), wildland fire danger remains extremely high.

According to CAL Fire Battalion Chief Dennis Townsend fuels will get even drier as the summer progresses but current conditions still call for great caution for all Mother Lode residents.

Townsend adds that improper use of equipment is a major cause of wildland fires. Mowers, weed eaters, etc. should always be used early in the morning and at dusk. That is when fuel moisture is highest during the day. A single spark could easily set off a potentially devastating fire.
