Governor May Call For Third Furlough Day

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA — Governor Schwarzenegger says he will furlough state workers an additional day each month starting in July if lawmakers don’t pass a budget before June 30th.

The move would require state employees to take three unpaid leave days each month, which would be the equivalent of a 14 percent pay cut. Officials estimate that an additional furlough day will save the state $61 million each month it is in place.
