Schwarzenegger Says He Won’t Sign A Budget With Tax Increases

Sacramento, CA — Governor Schwarzenegger announced Wednesday that he will veto any new budget proposals that include tax increases.

“I made it clear to the legislative leaders that even though they have done a good job in discussions about the budget, I cannot sign a budget that has tax increases,” says Schwarzenegger. “We just had the largest tax increase four months ago in the history of California. To do another tax increase now would be irresponsible.”

Democratic legislative leaders released a budget Tuesday that included a fee increase of $15 on vehicle licensing and around $2 billion in tax increases. Schwarzenegger indicated that it is not acceptable.
