Sacramento, CA — Today’s the deadline for the California budget but as usual no budget will be in place when the clock strikes twelve at midnight tonight.
Legislators haven’t approved a budget by the June 15 deadline since 1986 and Gov. Schwarzenegger and the Legislature seem to be making little if any headway in formulating a deal that would erase the $24.3 billion deficit.
Assemblyman Tom Berryhill, “We will stay at the table because both sides know that it does no good to stretch this thing out. What very well may happen is that we’ll get this thing done and go right back into another budget process probably in July or August. I just don’t think physically it’s possible to fix the whole thing right now. Right now what we’re trying to do is keep this thing running.”
