Sonora, CA — 25th District Republican Assemblyman Tom Berryhill says lawmakers are expected to pick up discussions on balancing the $24 billion budget deficit on Monday.
“Right now, we must decide on the cuts so we can get to the point where we can fund our budget and continue running the government,” says Berryhill. “It is clear that we shouldn’t be borrowing, shouldn’t be taxing, and that we should be making cuts.”
State Controller John Chiang says the state may not be able to pay all of its bills beginning next month unless a budget is approved in the coming weeks.
Governor Schwarzenegger’s recent budget proposal includes around $17 billion worth of cuts.
