Sonora, CA — Tuolumne County District Attorney Donald Segerstrom was given the opportunity to summarize his office’s 2008 achievements at today’s supervisorial meeting.
When it comes to those arrested for driving-under-the-influence Segerstrom commented the numbers continue to increase. There were 500 arrests in 2006, 548 in 2007 and 561 in 2008.
"What we’re seeing is a real increase in the number of those who are driving under the influence of prescription drugs."
(Segerstrom, County Health Officer Dr. Todd Stolp and Sgt. Scott Johnson from the Tuolumne Narcotics Team will discuss the illicit use of prescription drugs on this weekend’s Mother Lode Views).
When it comes to juvenile offenders, Sergerstrom stated that his office will do its level best to keep youths out of the justice system through, perhaps, some program administered by the County Probation Office.
Overall Segerstrom said that while felonies and serious crimes are on the increase his office has lost valuable personnel due to budget reductions.
