California Remains Without A New Budget

Sacramento, CA — California remains without a budget even after the Senate convened for a day long session in Sacramento Monday.

Senate Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg commented Monday evening that all the Democrats are on board but one additional Republican needs to say "yea" instead of "nay" to pass the proposed budget which would add approximately $14.4 billion to what Californians are already paying in taxes.

The Senate will reconvene at ten o’clock this morning and Steinberg has been quoted as saying, "Bring your toothbrush."

Meanwhile layoff notices are going out to 20,000 California state employees today. The Schwarzenegger administration is hopeful of eliminating 10,000 state jobs in an effort to bring spending in line with revenues.
