Murphys Celebrates Inauguration Day 2009

Murphys, CA — The Firewood on Main Street was the focal point of the Murphys´ Tuesday evening Inauguration Day celebration.

100 plus Mother Lode residents turned out for the festivities that closed out the day in which Barack Hussein Obama was sworn in as the 44th president of the United States. Music filled the air along with the excitement generated by those who believe that America is truly ready for a change.

One of those on hand was Calaveras County Supervisor and current Board Chair Russ Thomas. Thomas commented, “One phrase in Mr. Obama´s speech that caught my attention was, “It´s time for us to pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off and get to work.” That really resonated with me because I´ve always been a hard worker and I don´t think we´re going to be able to extract ourselves from the problems that we have locally, regionally and in the state without a lot of hard work.”

Thomas concluded, “I echo that comment and I´m ready.”
