Locals Ready To Celebrate Obama’s Inauguration

Sonora, CA — Voting results will tell you that the Mother Lode is Republican territory just about every year.

You would never know that from the number of inauguration celebrations that will take place tomorrow.

Just to name two, Sonora´s Jay Bell and his wife Marlys will be hosting an evening celebration gala at the East Sonora Conference Center. That event is already sold out.

When asked why he has such a passion for the Chicago resident, the 79 year old African-American commented, “I´ve been working in community and civic activities for most of my life. I think it´s genetic … my father was the same way and we have just pushed and pushed for civil right, for justice and for gender equality. I worked for seven years with the Peace Corp. This is in my blood to help America grow. This has been my sincere motive for living to make this country realize its potential.”

Bell was instrumental in launching the Tuolumne County For Obama Network in 2006.

On a much smaller scale Dick and Sally Tuttle will host a four o´clock Bar-B-Que at their Mokelumne Hill residence tomorrow. Tuttle says her husband was a civil rights lawyer in Jackson, Mississippi during the hot summer nights of 1965. “That gives us an interest in Barack Obama.”

Tuttle adds that her daughter and son-in-law were in Washington, D.C. Sunday for just about all of the activities.

And a reminder that the Barack Obama Inaugural Celebration will be broadcast line on AM-1450 KVML from 8:55 until 10am tomorrow. It will also be audio and video streamed live on MyMotherLode.com during the very same time period.
