Sacramento, CA — Roughly 15,000 criminals would be let out of prison early as part of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger´s latest budget proposal.
The Associated Press reports that it would also end parole for about 65,000 nonviolent and non-sex offenders. Administration officials say the parole program can be scaled back without harming public safety. Critics say felons convicted of spousal abuse and stalking would be released without supervision.
The Governor´s plan would cut $842 million from the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation budget.
