Sacramento, CA — A Sacramento County Superior Court Judge has declined Governor Schwarzenegger’s request to pay state workers minimum wage to deal with the state budget deficit.
According to the Associated Press, Judge Patrick Marlette ruled that it would cause too much harm to employees. Deputy Controller Hallye Jordan says the decision means 200,000 California workers will continue to get their full wages in July and August.
Judge Marlette did say he will allow the administration’s lawsuit to proceed so the court can sort out whether the controller must pay minimum wage in the future. The next hearing will be July 26.
