Governor Schwarzenegger was Tuesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”. Here are his words:
“Hello, this is Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger with another California Report.
Last week, we talked about taking care of our veterans and celebrating the new veterans’ homes that we are building in Fresno and in Redding.
These homes are among the many ways we in California are showing our commitment to those who served and protected us.
I am deeply moved by the sacrifices our soldiers and our veterans make for each of us.
And since this is Memorial Day weekend, all of us must honor and remember the brave men and women who have given their lives so that we can live in freedom.
Their sacrifice endures, and their memory must as well.
From the Revolutionary War, to two World Wars, to Korea, Vietnam and the Middle East today – our soldiers have left a legacy of bravery and commitment.
No one appreciates that sacrifice more than an immigrant like myself.
I was drawn to America with big dreams because it is the land of liberty and opportunity.
Let me tell you, every success I had in this country is because of America. I could have gone anywhere else in the world, and I wouldn’t have had 10 percent of that success. So I love America, and I never forget those who put their lives on the line in liberty’s name.
We in California honor those who laid down their lives in battle by taking care of their brothers and sisters who return home to us.
We make sure that they have jobs, education, medical and mental health care, housing, and the list goes on and on.
We are steadfast in our commitment to our veterans and their families because they committed to us.
So as you enjoy a long holiday weekend, give thanks for these great men and women who have taught us the lessons of courage, sacrifice and love of country.
You can show your respect by attending a veterans’ memorial at your local cemetery, and they have them all over our state. Or visit a veterans’ home.
Also, make sure you talk to your kids about the great sacrifices our veterans have made, because their sacrifices have made America, and our beautiful state, the most free, the most blessed, and the most wonderful place in the world.
Thank you for watching, and thank you for listening.”
The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard each weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
