Sonora, CA — It is the time of year when prescribed burns are starting up in the Stanislaus National Forest.
Pile burning around Pinecrest Lake starts this week and will continue for approximately two weeks. A total of 32 acres of small hand piles will be burned along the north and south shores. Expect to notice smoke in that area.
Also this week, a 2,200 acre burn is starting six miles northeast of Long Barn on the south facing slope of the Stanislaus River. The project is on 1,800 acres of Stanislaus National Forest land and 390 acres of Sierra Pacific Industries property. The project is expected to span the next week or so depending on conditions.
