Sonora, CA — The reconstruction of J-59 is expected to start in early May.
"The contractor is ready to go and we’re just waiting for temperatures to warm up to the minimum levels," says Peter Rei, Tuolumne County Public Works Director. "The long term forecast is showing that the first or second week of May is the earliest window we will have."
12.5 miles will be reconstructed from Hwy 108 to the Stanislaus County line. Stanislaus County is overseeing the reconstruction from the Tuolumne County line to Hwy 132.
Over $2 million was allocated for the project last year through the Federal stimulus package. Tuolumne County had also received an additional $2 million for the project a few years earlier from a federal transportation bill.
