Governor Schwarzenegger Discusses State Budget

Governor Schwarzenegger was Tuesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”. Here are his words:

“Hello, this is Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger with another California Report.

This week I want to update you on our budget situation.

Two months ago I released my budget proposal and called an emergency special session to deal with our $20 billion deficit.

I asked the legislators to make the tough but necessary cuts. And I asked them to act immediately.

Yet after two months I am disappointed that the legislature has only sent me $200 million in solutions. That’s just one percent of our deficit.

The longer they delay, the bigger our problem grows and the deeper we’ll have to cut.

Think about this, right now California is spending $600 million more per month than we are taking in. That’s $20 million per day.

When you’re in a hole, the first rule is to stop digging.

So the legislators must take action and stop postponing the inevitable.

Now, in addition to our budget, I’m also disappointed they have not acted on my job creation package.

Our number, one priority must be jobs, jobs, jobs.

Yet it has been 66 days since I proposed my jobs package.

Every day the legislators don’t act, we risk losing more businesses, more jobs and more opportunities for Californians.

And I want to hear their job creation ideas as well.

Let’s take my ideas, the Democrats’ ideas and the Republicans’ ideas and let’s start putting Californians back to work. There are two things, and two things only, that we should be working on solving: our deficit and creating jobs.

And you can help make it happen.

Contact your local Senator and Assemblymember. Tell them you want action.

So thank you for watching and thank you for listening.”

The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard every weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
