Sacramento, CA — Mother Lode elected officials are weighing in on Governor Schwarzenegger’s State of the State Address.
“It was one of those speeches that frankly I was impressed with what the Governor had to say,” says Dave Cox, District One State Senator.
Cox adds, “The difficult decisions must be made now. There are no easy choices. We need a real budget process this year. Every program must be examined.”
19th District State Senator Dave Cogdill states, “Apologies to Yogi Berra, but it’s déjà vu all over again. The state’s budget challenges once again will take center stage this year and I applaud the Governor for approaching solutions to the state’s chronic fiscal woes with the same tenacity as his first years in office. Ensuring more Californians receive paychecks rather than unemployment checks should be the Legislature’s top priority because it is the most effective and responsible way to climb out of this recession.”
25th District Assemblyman Tom Berryhill says, “There weren’t really any big surprises. Everybody knows that we’re about $20-25 billion upside down. There’s going to be a lot of pain and suffering as we move into this next year, but I think there is a general consensus that maybe we’re getting to the bottom of it, and hopefully next year we will have a little rebound and people will start working again.”
The Governor will release his full budget proposal this Friday.
