Washington, DC– U.S Representative Jeff Denham has been selected to chair the Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management in the U.S House of Representatives.
This Subcommittee authorizes the nation’s emergency preparedness policy and programs and conducts oversight of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). It also exercises oversight of federal real estate programs and works to improve the management of federally owned assets in order to eliminate waste and save taxpayer’s money.
“It’s certainly an honor and a privilege to be selected,” said Denham. “I was told there was a zero percent chance that any freshman would get any chairmanships, but we worked hard and lobbied. This is a passion of mine. We’ve got to sell some of the properties that just shouldn’t be owned by government. Some properties have outlived their usefulness while others should have never been purchased in the first place.”
Congressman Jeff Denham represents the 19th District of California in the U.S. House of Representatives. His district covers parts of Fresno, Madera, Mariposa, Tuolumne and Stanislaus counties. He was elected in November 2010, and will serve his first term in the 112th session of Congress.
