Unique October Events
There are some unique events, more than craft fairs and food fundraisers, on the myMotherLode calendar this weekend.
The Hi 4-H Haunted House “Realms of Darkness” continues to offer a scary experience at the barn on Washington Street in Sonora. Organizers estimate 200 people went thru on opening night last night. Seven people were escorted out when they found it too scary.
Evening shows are not considered suitable for most children, are offered tonight, Saturday and next Thursday, Friday and Saturday plus Tuesday before Halloween and on Halloween night starting at 7:00pm and going till 8:30 or 9:30pm. A special matinée next Saturday from 3:00-5:00pm is a demonstration with the lights on, suitable for younger children with an adult.

All Hallows Fantasy Faire is a popular pre-Halloween costume event held this Saturday and Sunday at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds. For photos and information from last year read “All Hallows Weekend” Ticket prices and other details are all listed on their website.
If bowling is more your thing then help support American Red Cross by raising funds at the 7th Annual Red Cross Bowl-a-Rama. Starting at 11am, individuals, teams of four (the Spares) or eight (the Strikes) bowlers need to gather $50 in donations to participate and earn their Bowl-a-Rama tee shirt. Another unique event is the monthly Sonora Community Contra Dance. The dancing will begin this Saturday at the Aronos Club on Elkin Street from 7:30pm – 11:00pm with a Potluck at 6:30 for those who come early. The square dancing callers will be Wayne, Sue and Lynn, Oldtime Stringband music will be provided by The Fine and Dandy Oldtime Travelers. The Sierra British Sportcar Group (SBSG) Rally will hold it’s first event junction shopping center and Rally to the Indegeny Apple Ranch and Cider Reserve located on Summers Lane off Lyons-Bald Mtn. They define themselves as an informal group open to all to all British Sportcar owners. Contact information is in the event listing here.
For an entirely different speed of event Utica Park in Angels Camp is hosting an Island Faire Luau Fundraiser. This 2nd annual Luau event is this Saturday from 1pm to 6pm to benefit Meals on Wheels in Calaveras and Amador Counties. There will be a pig on a spit, barbeque chicken, plus a no host bar, great Hawaiian music and live entertainment. More details are here.
