Sonora, CA — Power outages are reported across the Mother Lode this morning as snow has arrived in the foothills.
PG&E reports that there are roughly 840 customers without electricity in Tuolumne County and 460 in Calaveras County. The hardest hit areas are Sonora with 368 and Arnold with 179. There are also outages reported in Mi Wuk Village, Twain Harte, Columbia, Pinecrest, North Fork, Bear Valley and West Point. PG&E reports that most of the outages started between 2:30-4:30am. Crews hope to have most customers restored by 5pm this evening.
At 8am this morning, Bear Valley ski resort announced that they will be closed today because of the power outage. The resort plans to reopen Monday.
Spinouts, stuck vehicles and rockslides have been reported in various areas across the region. The CHP says several vehicles have pulled over on Highway 108 near the bottom of the Twain Harte Grade. A pickup truck has rolled over on Parrotts Ferry Road near Gold Springs Drive. A large boulder is reported on Jacksonville Road near Mammoth Mountain Road.
Sadly, one person has reportedly died at a home on Moran Road in Arnold this morning. The CHP reports that a tree fell into the home, resulting in a fatality. Limited information is currently available, but one person has been pronounced dead. Multiple law enforcement crews are on scene on Moran Road.
