Both Fairgrounds Host Weekend Events
The weekend of March 23rd and 24th has several events on the calendar.
On Saturday the gates open at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds for a Me-Wuk Demolition Derby. There is a $5,000 purse and all proceeds go to the Mother Lode Fairgrounds. Two derby cars will be raffled, for tickets view the Derby event listing here.
The annual Knights Ferry Civil War Days begins at 9:00am Saturday and continues on Sunday as well. Located at the historic Knights Ferry covered bridge, the event is where the Civil War “comes alive”. For more details view the Civil War Days event listing.
The Calaveras Gem & Mineral Show is also Saturday from 10:00am to 5:00pm and Sunday from 10am to 4:00pm at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds (Frogtown). According to the event listing “World class dealers will offer great values on top quality gems, minerals, jewelry, beads, fossils, petrified wood, fluorescents, lapidary material, equipment, books and supplies and service.” Demonstrators will show how lapidary and jewelry items are made. The Sierra Nevada Film Festival begins Saturday at 5:30pm at the Black Bart Playhouse in Murphys. Go Gangster, Neve & Sons, Snow Guardians, The Story of Broke and Desert Dreams will be shown. Contact information for the Film Festival is here.

Wednesday, March 27, Columbia will Celebrate the anniversary of the discovery of gold in the town! The birthday celebration begins at noon in front of the museum with a speech. Volunteers and staff will fill Columbia State Historic Park with costumed docents and cake and punch will be served to all attendees.
