Next week is Spring Break for local schools, and there are several Mother Lode events you can enjoy despite possibly rainy weather and winter weather advisory. Here is the run-down of events.

At the Calaveras Fairgrounds in Angels Camp the Calaveras Gem and Mineral Society is hosting the 2019 Gem and Jewelry Show, Sale and Fundraiser. Both Saturday and Sunday the event opens at 10 AM with free gold panning, jewelry and supplies, a kid’s zone, various demonstrations, a raffle and of course gems, specimens, exhibits, and food. As mentioned in Thursday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day” the eleventh annual Copper Chili Cookoff will take place this Saturday from 11 AM to 3 PM at the Copperopolis Town Square. In addition to the chili, there will be other vendors, beverages, a 50/50 raffle and live music. Mountain Youth and Community Theatre concludes the last performances of ‘Under the Big Top’ this weekend. Kyla Hatler directs a 50 person cast which includes performers from age 7 to adult. Details are here. East Sonora Sierra Repertory Theatre continues the last weekend of performances of A Chorus Line and Route 66 is showing at SRT’s Fallon House.

At the Presbyterian Church of the 49ers in Columbia a Hymn Festival has been organized. Guest artist Dr. Daryl Hollinger, who teaches music at Columbia College and directs the Community Chorus, has put together a fun program of well-known, and varied, hymns for the audience to sing together. Hollinger will be the organist accompanying many of the hymns. Other instruments featured during this Hymn Festival are a flute, trumpet, handbells and handchimes. In addition to the chili cookoff and Gem and Mineral Show, also in Calaveras this Saturday, the Calaveras Master Gardeners are hosting an Open Garden & Plant Sale. 

At the Mountain Ranch Town Hall catch the evening Spaghett Dinner & Bingo Games.
