More Mother Lode events will be held this weekend. Starting today the Mother Lode Christian School 33rd Annual Winter Jubilee starts at 4:00pm. Held at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds, silent and live auctions, a book sale, pie booth, and game room will help fund the school. The 7th and 8th grade dinner will raise money for a 2014 Washington D.C trip. Saturday the fun continues at 9am, the silent auction tables will close after lunch. Today there is also a Yellow Starthistle Workshop from 3:00pm to 5:00pm at the Groveland Community Hall. According to Scott Oneto, UC Farm Advisor and speaker, “Yellow Starthisle is a noxious weed that infests over 15 million acres in California. We have had a number of bad years and this year is projected to be a really bad weed year. The rainfall patterns have been ideal for yellow starthisle germination and we are encouraging everyone to work diligently to control invasive weeds this spring”.
The workshops covers management strategies for yellow starthislte ranging from biological, mechanical and chemical control. Other topics include sprayer calibration and pesticide safety. For details and contact information view the event listing.
The Sonora High Ag Booster’s 3rd Annual Dinner begins Saturday evening at 5:00pm at the Sonora Elks Lodge. They are celebrating National FFA Week with a social hour at 5:00pm and dinner will be served at 6:30pm. For more information view the event listing.

Sunday in Murphys, Steve Shetzline, a certified mental health trainer for Calaveras County and director of the Murphys Senior Center, will speak for 45 minutes on how people can respond to those with mental health issues, including depression. The talk begins at 11:30am at the Murphys First Congregational Church. It is a potluck lunch but people are welcome if they can’t bring food. On Sunday at the Bret Harte High School Theater the Ovations 2013 Performing Arts Series presents presents authentic music and dance from Zimbabwe. The event is sponsored by the Calaveras Arts Council and begins at 3:00pm. Details are available here.
