Railtown 1897’s Opening Weekend And More April Events

This Saturday Railtown 1897 will host its opening weekend with excursion train rides, music and entertainment. Rides are free on both Saturday and Sunday but capacity is limited for the three daily excursion rides so visitors are encouraged to arrive early. Tickets during opening weekend are available in person only on a first-come, first-served basis and rides are on the 1952 Baldwin Whitcomb No.1265 historic diesel locomotive.

After opening weekend, steam-powered excursion train rides are offered on Saturdays behind Sierra No. 3™ and on Sundays behind a historic diesel locomotive. Ticket prices and all the details are in the event listing here.

The local Vietnam Veterans of America chapter 391 is hosting their first ever Bike and Car show this Saturday. The KVML “Newsmaker of the Day” here featured Larry Bramblett, President of the local Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 391 providing details about the event. From 10 AM to 4 PM there will be food, drinks, music and prize drawings at the Tuolumne County Sheriff Posse Grounds on Rawhide Road in Jamestown. All of the proceeds from Saturday’s event will support local veterans, community outreach and scholarships.

Calaveras CARES Information Faire will feature information booths, a silent auction, raffles, and an opportunity to learn about community services in our area. Sonora Cat Rescue’s Annual Spring Fashion Show’s theme is “Italian Style” The lively luncheon will feature music, fashions, gift and personal shopping opportunities, raffles, and door prizes at the Twain Harte Golf Course. Details about the event are here.

On Sunday the Amador Tuolumne Community Action Agency (ATCAA) Mentoring Works program will present the 9th Annual “Taste for Mentoring Dessert Contest and Antique Auto Show” from 2 p.m – 4 p.m at the Sonora Elks Lodge. Attendees will find antique automobiles, cake walks, a silent auction and live music from the Ukulele Orchestra. Elena Linehan, Mentoring Works Coordinator, was featured here as Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.
