The Mother Lode transitions quickly to December Holiday events after Thanksgiving.
At the Sonora Opera Hall on Friday and Saturday is the 24th Annual Hometown Crafters Christmas Craft Faire. The Faire will also be open until 7:00 PM during the 33rd Annual Historic Downtown Sonora Christmas Parade with Kettle Corn and 4H Hot Chocolate for sale outside the Hall. There is no entry fee nor parking fee.
Friday through Sunday at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds is the 42nd Annual Christmas Craft Faire. The festival features over 150 craft artists, up tempo and varied music, street performers, costumed elves and twinkle trees, carolers and a wide selection of home-cooking.
Friday evening is the Avery Christmas Tree Lighting which begins at 5:30 pm. Bring cookies, a non-perishable food item, and enjoy hot drinks and caroling with your friends and neighbors. Tree lighting ceremony begins at 6:00 pm and all donations will be taken to the Calaveras Food Bank. If you plan to attend the 2nd Annual Christmas in White Pines Parade of Lights in White Pines, event organizers say you will have plenty of time to get there, it starts at 7pm. The ladies of the Moose will have hot chocolate available but no alcohol is allowed at the family event, all proceeds from sponsors benefit the White Pines Park.
After crazy Black Friday shopping, Saturday has been designated Shop Small Business Saturday. Downtown Sonora merchants will be geared up with the small town charm of the past and present at a variety of shops, restaurants to please any pallet, and coffee shops to keep you going.
Saturday is the Christmas of Angels Open House and Parade in Historic Downtown Angels Camp features holiday ambiance enhanced with caroling, live music, lighted holiday décor and lighting of the community Christmas tree. The Parade starts at 5pm and showcases a wide range of festively themed floats, bands, children’s and equestrian entries. After the parade Santa will hear children’s wishes with photo opportunities.
Work off some extra Thanksgiving calories on a Saturday hike on the Heron Point Trail located in the Tuttletown Recreation Area. Enjoy a leisurely 3 mile hike and discover what nature has to offer on an autumn day. Meet at the Tuttletown Entrance Station at 10AM and then caravan down to the Heron Point trailhead. Participants will be issued a parking pass for the duration of the event.
Church Basement Ladies 3: A Mighty Fortress is Our Basement continues at the Fallon House Theatre in Columbia and at the East Sonora Sierra Repertory Theatre and into December, they will present A Christmas Story. Stage 3 will host opening night for Forbidden Broadway’s Greatest Hits Vol 1 on Friday Nov. 25. The entertaining tribute features the characters of Broadway’s greatest musical legends.
Sonora Moose Lodge is hosting a Christmas in November Vendor Faire Sunday.All proceeds from the 20 vendor booth fees will go toward the “Safe Surfing” foundation, which helps to foster educational programs for our youth. There will be a vendor raffle, hot dogs and popcorn for purchase.
