A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect for the Sierra Nevada above 5,000 feet until 10 pm Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service, one wave of precipitation is moving through today with another wave forecast to move through Northern California on Sunday.
Two to five inches of total snow accumulation is expected above the 5,000 foot elevation. Half a foot to two feet of snow is likely above the 7,000 foot elevation.
Snow levels may briefly fall to 4,000 feet Sunday afternoon.
In addition, gusty winds over the mountain tops, may cause white out conditions at times. The strongest winds are expected today. If traveling into the Sierra this weekend. carry tire chains and extra supplies and be prepared for winter driving conditions.
A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving.
