Murphys Dia de los Muertos And Other Weekend Events
This weekend is Murphys Dia de los Muertos, and many other festive and unique events are planned in the Mother Lode.
Since Calaveras means Land of the Skulls, event organizers invite the public to celebrate the Day of the Dead in the Land of the Skulls. Murphys businesses and wine tasting rooms will have traditional decorations to remember the lives of those who have passed, they will also offer treats, the event goes from 11AM to 6PM. The St. Patrick’s Church in Angels Camp is hosting a Religious Retreat and the St. Patrick’s Christmas Fair is at the St. Patrick’s Parish Hall in Sonora on Saturday. You can also have a pancake breakfast at Applebee’s to support the Shoebox Pancake Fundraiser that funds Operation Christmas Child.
At the Mother Lode Fairgrounds it is the 2nd Annual Sonora Treasure Faire. Appraisals are $10 and auctioned items will benefit Kiwanis Club of Sonora, Children’s programs and the Friends of the Mother Lode Fairgrounds.
In Angels Camp the Calaveras Gem & Mineral Society are hosting their Bi-Annual Rock Swap & Sale.
Get all the information about how to become a volunteer at Columbia State Historic Park this Saturday. A docent is a volunteer who has completed a training program with the park which includes history talks, park etiquette and rules, costuming guidelines and more. Columbia is in need of volunteers to perform a variety of functions at the Park, such as staffing the museum and information center in the middle of town, teaching historic lessons at the schoolhouse, gardening throughout the park, sharing the Park and its history with visitors as a costumed volunteer at special events throughout the year, and more. This Saturday evening is the second annual Global Belief Gala. The semi-formal event includes appetizers, silent auction, Ugandan Craft Fair and live entertainment. If you have ever wanted to see the New Melones Dam that impounds the waters of New Melones Lake, this Sunday is the day to see it. For nearly two decades the gate to the dam overlook has been closed but this fall the gate is open this Sunday and December 10. A Park Ranger will be available on site to answer questions about the dam and history of New Melones Lake. The details are in the event listing here.
