This weekend will be the second weekend in May and that means you can enjoy Sonora’s night life at 2nd Saturday Art Night. This weekend is the first “After 8” event for 2016, nicknamed Second Songbird Saturday. More details are here.
Last night was opening night for Columbia Elementary School’s production of Pom Pom Zombies, a sci-fi spoof of beach blanket flicks of the 1960’s. The musical will be performed by Columbia’s 6th, 7th and 8th graders tonight through Saturday, details are here. Saturday at the Sonora Moose Lodge the 4th Annual Breakfast Fundraiser for the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Community Service Unit will be held. The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Community Services Unit has five office locations throughout the county and volunteers help free up valuable time for sworn deputies to focus on crime prevention and calls for service.
Also Saturday bring your well-behaved pets to the 6th Annual Pet Blessing at the Church of the 49ers. This free event is held on the lawn of the church in Columbia, shade and seating are provided. More details are in the event listing.

Sonora’s Certified Farmer’s Market begins this Saturday as reported here in an interview with City of Sonora Farmer’s Market Supervisor, Erin O’Hare.
This Saturday is the Annual Luc’s Run in Tuolumne. All proceeds go to the Major Lucas Gruenther Legacy Foundation. There is a 1K Kid’s Race for those 12 and under, a 2-mile course, and a 10K course, more details are here. Also in Tuolumne at the West Side Memorial Park is the Springfest Community Bizaar. The event is both Saturday and Sunday, with music and a market featuring antiques, crafts, yard sale items, details are here.
There is another run this Saturday, at White Pines Park, is the Heroes Fun Run. There is a 5k and 12K option and a two mile walk. The event benefits Calaveras Door of Hope as reported here in the interview with Sissy Hedrick, the Executive Director. For event details and registration times view the event listing here. Activities in addition to the run include a silent auction, raffle prizes, food vendors, a coffee cart, games for kids and more.
