As February comes to a close all those born on February 29th can look forward to celebrating this Monday. Before the extra leap day there are several fun community events to enjoy too. As reported here it is Mother Lode Christian School’s Winter Jubilee at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds this weekend. The doors will open Friday at 4pm for the 7th & 8th Grade Dinner which helps students pay for a trip to Washington DC. The book sale and pie booth silent auction bidding will begin, as well as a preview of live auction items. The event wraps up at 9 PM and then Saturday at 9 AM everything is available again with the live auction beginning at 11:30 AM. Saturday is also the 8th Annual Copperopolis Chili Cook-Off. Free admission, $5 for chili tasting, for event contact details view the event listing.
Sunday the Foothill Leadership Academy will be hosting the first annual Dragoon Gulch 5K family fun run/walk. The community service project is designed to help raise money for the City of Sonora to expand the Dragoon Gulch Trail. All proceeds will be donated to the city. People of all ages and activity levels are encouraged to participate. Registration details are in the event listing and there is also same day registration. Runners will start at 8:00 and walkers right after. Mountain Om Yoga will be providing two free yoga sessions at 7:30 and 09:00AM. Details are here.
Staff members for Assemblyman Frank Bigelow, Senator Tom Berryhill and Congressman Tom McClintock will be in Sonora on Tuesday March 1st from 10am-11:30am at the Sonora Fire Department at 201 South Shepherd Street. Staff representing the lawmakers will be available to hear opinions on legislation, and offer help on problems encountered with agencies like the DMV, Employment Development Department or any others.
