The Mother Lode has offers an array of events each weekend, here are a few of the things happening locally.
In honor of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, this Sunday at the Sonora High School Auditorium, is the annual Motherlode Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration. The speaker is Jim Hightower, who is described as “America’s most popular populist.” There will also be music and the event is free, with a reception to follow in the school’s library. Plans are already underway for the Mother Lode Round Up, and the Queen Contest orientation is tonight. The qualifying ride will be this Saturday, January 23rd, and the Official Kick off will be January 24th. More event details are here.
Get some exercise Saturday at High Country Sports Arena Public Skate Sessions or at the 24th annual Copper Run. The two mile and half mile runs happen rain or shine and benefit several local organizations. On Sunday all exercise levels are welcome to the Major Lucas Gruenther Memorial Workout.
Tomorrow evening, January 22nd, is the 2nd Annual Winter Soup Bonanza to benefit the Groveland Youth Center at the Groveland Community hall.
Saturday morning the Master Gardeners of Tuolumne are Collecting Packing Material. Specifics were detailed in the story Master Gardeners Again Collect #6 Packaging Foam here.
At noon, on Saturday in Columbia, there will be an informational meeting about the proposed split of California into two states, with the northern state to be called Jefferson. Tuolumne County is included in the boundaries of the new state. Details are in the event listing here.
