The National Weather Service has issued a Significant Weather Advisory for northeastern Calaveras County, north central Tuolumne County and west central Alpine County until 4:45 PM.
At 3:51 pm, Doppler Radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm seven miles east of Lily Gap or eleven miles north of Calaveras Big Trees State Park, moving south at twenty mph.
Half inch hail and winds in excess of forty mph will be possible with this storm.
Locations impacted include Bear Valley, Calaveras Big Trees State Park, Lily Gap, Dorrington, Shriner lake Campground, Cooks Station, Tamarack, Black Springs and Arnold.
Showers and thunderstorms will continue at times through the evening in the Sierra Nevada and the Central Valley.
The stronger storms will likely contain very heavy rainfall, hail, and strong gusty winds.
Localized flooding will be possible.
Lightning can strike fifteen miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
