Tuolumne County, CA — Caltrans will shut down Sonora Pass this afternoon due to the stormy weather blowing through.
As previously reported, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Sierra Nevada above 6000 feet from 5 a.m. Thursday to 5 p.m. Friday due to a potential snowfall of up to a half-foot. Caltrans spokesperson Angela Daprato says, “Caltrans will close Sonora Pass at Kennedy Meadows today [Wednesday] at 4 p.m. Caltrans will reopen the pass once weather permits and crews make the necessary repairs to the roads.”
There is no word on Highway 4 Ebbetts Pass. She adds that currently road crews are monitoring the situation before making a decision. Highway 120 Tioga Pass remains open. As reported last Friday, Tioga Pass was the last to reopen for the summer season on Monday, some three weeks earlier than usual.
