Last Weekend In April Events

Difficult to believe it is the last weekend in April, but there is plenty to do in the Mother Lode.

The Spring Festival will go on rain or shine in downtown Sonora. The event listing with a full run-down of activities is here. Also happening in Sonora, at the Fair Grounds, is the ICES 31st Annual Children and Babies’ Fair. Free admission with activities and entertainment, lunch will be available for $2.00. As the Round Up approaches there is something each weekend leading up to it, review all the activities in our calendar.

The Columbia College Community Chorus Annual Spring Concert will be held at the St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Sonora this Saturday. This year hear “Requiem” by John Rutter followed by a set of English madrigals and African-American spirituals and more.  There will be a guest harpist, Dr. Beverly Wesner-Hoehn, and solos will feature Linda Carter, Chuck Maxon, and Diane Epler.  Tickets and more concert details are here.

There is an educational Spring event held at the Willow Springs Clubhouse Soulsbyville; the 2015 Stanislaus Wilderness Volunteer Spring Event is to provide orientation and training for new members/volunteers. Activities volunteers participate in take place within the local wilderness areas of the Emigrant, Carson-Iceberg, and Mokelumne Wilderness Areas, of the Stanislaus National Forest. Sign up sheets at the event for wilderness trainings and project opportunities include: Chainsaw Safety, Leave No Trace Education, Leave No Trace Stock Use, Ranger Academy, and First Aide/CPR. Calaveras is gearing up for their major event, the Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee at the end of May. This weekend is the Gymkhana at Frogtown. The cost to participate is in the event listing here.
