Mid-April Weekend Events
The weather forecast is uncertain for the high country, where there is a chance of rain and thunderstorms. In the foothills, while there are a lot of events scheduled, many might also celebrate a little rain. Start off Saturday morning with the Old Mill Run at Columbia State Park. Family-style foot races for children and adults; 1000 yard Mini-Mill, Kids 1mile, 2 mile walk/run, and 10K. Details are in the event calendar here.
As reported in a news story here the Calaveras Air Fair is all day Saturday at the Calaveras County Airport. View classic cars along with local aircraft on display and many other aircraft flying in for the event. Details about the food and airplane ride costs are here.
Saturday morning, Columbia Airport is hosting a Young Eagles Rally. All kids from 8 to 17 years-old can fly in a small general aviation airplane at no cost. Details are here.
Connections Visual and Performing Arts Academy’s 7th and 8th graders are presenting “Xanadu, Jr.” several times this weekend. There is a matinee of this award-winning Broadway musical, set in 1980, featuring a Greek Muse who is on a quest. All the ticket details are here. Also at Summerville, on Saturday, is the Tuolumne County Tennis Open.
Take in a Dog Parade at “Who Let The Dogs Out…” in Twain Harte. There will be a beginning agility course, costume contest, booths, food, and obedience training demonstrations. Parade staging begins at 10am with parade at 11am; all the details are here.
Support the Calaveras Mentoring Foundation at the Spring Swing, held at Ironstone Vineyards on Saturday. Reservations are needed, details here.
Downtown Sonora will be holding the 4th annual Spirit Mind Body Expo at the Sonora Opera Hall and Stage 3 Theatre. More on that here. A late to be listed event also on Saturday is the Mi Wuk Bash – Destruction Derby at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds.
Saturday evening enjoy music at the Todd Schroeder Young Artist Grant Benefit Concert 20th anniversary at the Sonora High School Auditorium. The night of music features the very first “Star Search” winner, Sam Harris. The event raises money for scholarships to students wishing to pursue a career in the arts. Details are here.
On Sunday don’t miss the some piratey fun at this year’s Pirates of Pawszance Champagne Spring Brunch at the Sonora Elks Lodge. Ticket information is available here.
Also on Sunday is the Columbia College Foundation’s 39th Annual Columbia Wine Tasting. The event benefits the Columbia College Culinary Arts Program.
