Burson, CA – The CHP reports a 54-year old Oakdale man was pronounced dead at the scene following a crash. His name is not being released, pending family notification.
The incident happened around 6:44 a.m. on Camanche Parkway South near Campo Seco Road north of Burson. CHP officers were dispatched to a solo accident with the driver unresponsive. Once on scene, they found a 1997 Toyota Celica with its right front end smashed into a dirt embankment and the driver was dead. It is not clear whether the crash was a result of the driver losing control of the car or if he was attempting to pull off the roadway due to illness and then hit the embankment.
Calaveras County Deputy Coroner Keith Rosa says, “The cause of death will not be known until an autopsy can be performed, which will mostly likely take place on Tuesday.”
An investigation is ongoing. The Sheriff’s office has asked anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the San Andreas CHP unit at 209-754-3541.
