More Events Planned For Weekend

Sonora, CA — Over 60 entries took part in last night’s Historic Downtown Sonora Christmas Parade.

The event featured local businesses, service clubs and churches. Popular themes were the nativity scene, Disney’s Frozen, lighted classic cars, several fire trucks, and Santa Claus.  City of Sonora Special events coordinator Sheila Wilkinson says 2014 marked the 31st year of the annual event. It is designed to kickoff the Christmas season, and attract visitors to downtown businesses.

Later today, Highway 49 is scheduled to be closed through downtown Angels Camp for its parade and festivities. Caltrans reports that Highway 49 will be closed from about 4:30pm – 7pm. Click here to read an earlier story about the event.

There are several more activities scheduled throughout the region, including in Copperopolis and Dorrington. Click here to read an earlier story detailing those events.

It remains to be seen how the rain could impact some of the events. Click here to read the latest weather alert from the National Weather Service.
