The USDA is has put out a public health advisory as 278 people have reported illnesses after eating some chicken products produced in California.
The USDA reports that the illnesses are connected to raw chicken products from three Foster Farms facilities in California. The first case was reported in March. Officials have not yet been able to track it to a specific Foster Farms product.
Health officials say it is critical to properly handle raw poultry and make sure that it is fully cooked, in order to prevent contamination. It is important to attain a 165 degree temperature.
Raw products from the facilities in question bear one of the establishment numbers on the packaging, “P6137, “P6137A” or “P7632.”
