A report that an explosive device was aboard a jetliner at Los Angeles International Airport, led to 186 passengers being taken off the plane during a bomb search this
morning. The ATA jetliner´s departure from LAX on a flight to Chicago was delayed shortly before takeoff. A police bomb squad boarded the plane after it was evacuated, at a location away from the LAX passenger terminals.
A phone call to the airline led to the plane evacuation about 8 am. ATA has service to many cities throughout the
United States and the Caribbean.
Los Angeles Police officer Jack Richter told KFWB radio about an hour after the plane was evacuated: “We do NOT have a package or suspicious package.” He said the bomb squad was still investigating the report at mid-morning. The plane is ATA Flight 214, a Boeing 757.
