Authorities have suspended a search for the third person aboard a small plane that crashed into the ocean off San Onofre on Christmas day.
Edward Muhammad of Inglewood was traveling with his wife, Celina Muhammad, back to Los Angeles County when their Cessna 172-N crashed about a half-mile from shore.
Celina Muhammad was killed in the crash. The pilot, Jamul Muhammad of Los Angeles, was rescued and is recovering at a San Diego hospital. His condition was upgraded today from serious to
fair. The couple were not related to the pilot.
Sheriff´s officials say the department is now helping collect evidence and debris.
The plane was returning to Hawthorne Airport from McClellan-Palomar Airport in Carlsbad when the pilot reported engine trouble.
