A collision between a passenger train and a tractor has left an elderly farmer dead.
Shortly after two p.m., an Amtrak train en route to Santa Barbara struck the tractor, killing the 65-year-old farmer.
The train, which originated in San Diego, was carrying 150 people. A Fire department spokesman says twelve people received minor injuries, but only five were taken to the hospital.
The farmer was traveling across an unguarded crossing, when the train crashed into him, pushing the tractor 400 yards before coming to a stop and catching fire.
One passenger car caught fire, which firefighters have put out.
Amtrak officials say they will be transporting the passengers by bus to Santa Barbara.
