Air Crash Drill At Columbia Airport

Emergency response teams will recreate an airplane crash at Columbia Airport Thursday to see if crews are ready in case of an actual aviation accident. According to airport director Tim Deike, aviation mishaps pose a whole different problem than the typical fire. Deike said metal structure fires, coupled with highly flammable aircraft fuels require other extinguishing aids other than water.

Deike plans to organize a similar drill at Pine Mountain Lake Airport in the near future.
