Former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan officially entered the California governor´s race this morning.
Riordan joins two other major contenders for the Republican
nomination to try to unseat Democratic Governor Davis.
The 71 year-old mayor made his announcement at a downtown LosAngeles rally after being introduced by actor Arnold
Schwarzenegger. Riordan said he´s running for governor for a very simple reason. In his words, “I love California.´´
A Field Poll last month showed Riordan roughly even with Davis but ahead of his two likely Republican rivals in the March primary.
Riordan was mayor of the nation´s second-largest city for eight years until term limits prevented him from seeking a third term
