The bomb scare on Highway 152 Thursday turned out to be a false alarm. Officials re-opened the roadway ten miles south of Merced after the suspected explosive was discovered to be nothing at all.
At noon, a truck driver returned to his semi-truck he left on the side of the highway because of mechanical breakdown, to find the box resting on the vehicle.
The bomb squad was called in to check the box. It contained a large rock.
Shortly afterwards, the scene was cleared and the highway was open by 2 p.m.
