The city of Oakland is expected to pay 240-thousand dollars to the 4-year-old daughter of an Oakland man shot and killed by police in 1998.
The payout would bring Oakland´s total settlement payouts this year to nearly 2 million dollars. The city has settled lawsuits alleging excessive force, negligence or wrongful arrest by police.
Officer Marcus Midyett shot and killed 23-year-old Michael Moore of Oakland with a single shot to the back after a foot chase.
A suit filed in U-S District Court on behalf of Moore´s daughter alleged wrongful death and civil rights violations.
Police have said Moore was shot after he ignored the officer´s commands to stop and appeared to reaching for his waistband. Authorities later said they found a revolver on the ground.
