A guilty plea today in Pomona from Rodney King, whose videotaped beating by police sparked the 1992 Los Angeles
riots. King plead guilty to drug-related charges and was ordered to spend one year in treatment. The 36 year old Altadena resident entered the pleas in Superior Court during a brief hearing.
King admitted to three misdemeanor counts of being under the influence of PCP and one count of indecent exposure. He was ordered to spend one year in the live in American Recovery Center drug treatment facility in Pomona. Prosecutor Thomas Gowen had sought a year in county jail for King, who faced more than three years in jail if convicted.
