A medical helicopter pilot was killed and two nurses were injured when the helicopter crashed last night, on
a school athletic field near Chico. The FlightCare helicopter had been dispatched to transport an auto crash victim at the mountain town of Butte Meadows, 120
miles north of Sacramento.
Authorities said one of the injured nurses on the helicopter was in critical condition, and the second nurse was in serious
condition at Enloe Medical Center in Chico. The helicopter was responding to an accident in which a car was sliced nearly in half, when it struck a tree. The
unidentified driver walked away from the crash, but his passenger, an 18-year-old woman, was entangled in the wreckage. She was hospitalized in serious
condition. The cause of the helicopter crash was not immediately known.
