Senate Says No To Bush’s Tax Cut

The Senate is saying no to the 1.6 trillion dollar tax cut that President Bush wants over the next
decade.

A budget plan approved by the senate today would allow room for a tax cut that would be about 300 billion dollars smaller.

It´s a
defeat for the new administration-which gave up on its efforts to find the votes needed to preserve the full tax cut.

Republican officials say they´ll now
try to increase the size of the cut in House negotiations. Members of the House have already approved a budget along the lines that Bush wants.
